Blow Up The Balloons And Light The Candles – We’re Turning Six!

Happy birthday to us! That’s right, Niche Recruitment is turning six whole years old – and what a six years it has been. We don’t know about you, but we always get a bit emotional around birthdays, so we thought this would be the perfect time to look back at the Niche Recruitment journey over the years and see how far we’ve come since it all began…

How it all started

Back in 2015, experienced recruiters Nick Wimshurst and Michelle Graham had a clear vision: they wanted to create a new brand that was recognised for providing a relationship-focused service. They saw a clear gap in the market: recruitment all too often focused on KPIs, with consultants caring more about commission than candidates. But Nick and Michelle wanted to do things differently and build a values-led company built on close relationships – and so Niche was born!

The original relationship

This focus on relationships isn’t new for these two. Their recruitment careers have been aligned from 2004. They’ve been each other’s managers, employees, mentors and now business partners, and their solid relationship underpins the very foundation of Niche. Plus, with combined experience of over 35 years, there is nothing they don’t know about finding the best people. So, if you want to retain the best talent, they’re your guys!

The Niche values

For the past six years everything that’s been built has been underpinned by five core values: understanding, honesty, passion, innovation and integrity. The driving force behind Niche has always been one of service and professionalism, and we remain dedicated to providing the highest level of care to each of our candidates and clients – which is why we go above and beyond to find the perfect fit.

But what is it that makes us different, we hear you cry? Without a doubt, it’s relationships. You see, at Niche, we’re all about the people. We will always take the time to get to know the wants, needs and goals of our clients and candidates alike, to ensure we truly understand what it is you’re looking for. And once we know what makes you tick, we’ll swoop in with our expert insight, years of experience and unbeatable knowledge to match the right people to the right roles.

Basically, we believe the recruitment process should be enjoyable for everyone involved. Or if not enjoyable, at least not painful. So, by listening to our clients and candidates and putting ourselves in their shoes, we can make sure we get the perfect match. Providing happy endings for all involved. What a journey!

When we look back over the past six years, there are so many highlights.

• From winning Start-up Business of the Year at the Wiltshire Business Awards in 2017 to following it up with Small Business of the Year two years later in 2019!
• From growing a team that embodies the core values to building a client base on a foundation of trust and honesty.
• From championing the use of Emotional Intelligence and video technology in recruitment, to placing over 1000 candidates and boasting a 95% retention rate.

We’re proud of it all… but we realise we need to keep going. To never stop innovating, and to never take our eye off the ball.

So, what’s next?

Well, there’s no denying it’s been a tough couple of years. Like everyone, we’ve faced challenges. We’ve also made (and learnt from!) mistakes, and the pandemic has pushed us more than we ever could have imagined. But we survived – and now it’s time to thrive! We are super excited to grow the business and continue matching the very best talent to the very best businesses.

And what better way to celebrate our birthday than this month’s record-breaking results. Long may it continue!
