MEET OUR LOVELY CHARLI!

If you’ve been avidly reading our blogs over the past few weeks, you’ll have already got to know Niche Recruitment co-founders Nick and Michelle (and if you haven’t read them yet, where have you been?!). And so, we thought it was about time that we introduced you to another member of our wonderful team, the lovely Charli. 

Charli started her journey at Niche as an Office Manager, before quickly becoming one of our most-loved consultants. With a flair for finance and head office recruitment, you could say she’s found her niche at Niche (see what we did there?!). 

So, without further ado, read on to meet Charli, find out about her fascinating career history, why she counts cooking for world famous tennis players as one of her fondest memories and, most of all, discover why she is such an integral part of our team… 

Charli’s background

When it comes to her career and work experience, Charli’s pretty much done it all. She started out working in property, before heading to a Swiss ski chalet following the 2008 recession. From there, Charli ventured to the tiny island of Sark where she worked in hospitality. After a while, she decided it was time to return to the UK, first working as an Assistant Manager in a hotel, before accepting a job at Witton Recruitment in Cirencester. 

“I stayed at Witton for a couple of years and loved it there. They provided incredible on-the-job training, some of which I still use to this day, so it was a fantastic company to begin my recruitment journey with,” Charli says. Before long, she was headhunted to work at a company specialising in accountancy recruitment, where she had the chance to work with the country’s biggest names in finance and accounting.

So, what next? “After that, I was recommended for a role by one of my clients, KPMG, at a recruitment consultancy in London, and I soon got the chance to set up an office in Cirencester which was such a fab learning experience. Following that, I decided to do something completely different and set up a gardening business where I ended up landscaping for Superdry owner, Julian Dunkerton – which was another incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience!”.

Charli’s Niche

After having her little boy, Oliver, Charli joined Niche as Office Manager. Eight months in, she moved into a recruitment role and managed the temps desk, before switching things up and working on perms roles too.

So, what is it Charli likes about Niche? “I just love the way they work,” she says. “Previously in recruitment it’s been very much a dog-eat-dog environment, where client service was good, but it was essentially about churning out an endless stream of candidates. At Niche, it’s different. There’s a moral compass, and they have a very ethical approach to recruitment which I think is so unique in this industry.”

Another thing that’s really important to Charli as the mother to two young sons is a good work/life balance – and Nick and Michelle have been nothing but supportive when it comes to juggling work with two kids. “I feel well looked after and appreciated here, which drives me to work harder too. Niche are well known for being all about relationships, and that extends to how they treat their staff as well. It’s just a great working environment and I feel really lucky to be part of the team!”

Outside of work

Outside of the office, Charli loves nothing more than tending her allotment and teaching her kids the importance of fresh produce and home-grown food. A keen cook, there’s nothing Charli enjoys more than whipping up a delicious, nutritious meal using fresh ingredients. And she’ll always bring any extra veg into the office too – although, of course, Michelle remains the wonky carrot queen!

Thinking back, it’s obvious that it was Charli’s love of cooking and gardening which took her on the roundabout journey from cooking for international sports stars in the Alps, to sampling the fresh produce on offer in Sark, to landscaping for Julian Dunkerton.

What’s next for Charli?

Now it’s all about the future. 2020 was such a surreal year, that I’m really looking forward to settling into normality at Niche and growing the finance recruitment desk. I can’t wait to get stuck in, build client relationships and really get this new function going. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon – and to be honest, I would never work for a recruitment company other than Niche – so I’m excited to get my teeth into the finance desk and make it a success!”

And with a history of 300% growth rates over just 12 months, we reckon she’s going to absolutely smash it!
