The world has changed since the days of staying in the same role for years on end, hoping in vain for a promotion. If your employee offers no internal career progression despite you being a prime candidate, it would be wise to start looking elsewhere for opportunities. If you approach your line manager and talks of progression are denied or ignored, it could be a sign that your employer would rather keep you in your position for their benefit than encourage your development.

Have the promises that attracted you to the role never materialised or simply faded away? You wouldn’t be alone. Many workers are returning to job boards after their previously remote role suddenly demands their presence in an office that they never signed up for. It’s important to ensure the benefits, perks and promises you were lured in with weren’t just smoke and mirrors, there are plenty of other roles that we recruit for that will deliver on their word!

Start looking at what your ideal roles are looking for, if there is anything glaringly obvious that you don’t have, start setting some personal goals to meet them.
