As more and more companies demand their workers return to the office full time, we wanted to remind everyone some of the less obvious reasons why hybrid working is important. We’ve all know the big benefits, work/life balance and more time for yourself to name a couple, but what about some of the hidden benefits of hybrid working?
Hybrid and remote flexible working allows parents who were once unable to, especially parents of new-borns, to re-join the workforce. A once impossible task, parents of young children can now fit their working time around their children. New parents were once blacked out of the workforce, the rise of hybrid and remote working has changed that dramatically.
65% of women with a toddler are now working full time! Hybrid helps dismantle the discrimination new mothers often see in returning to work. 43% of highly qualified women with childrenย leave the workplaceย because of a lack of flexibility, but aย recent studyย found that 67% of women who are not working by choice would go back to work if they had flexible hours.
The current Cost of Living crisis has got the majority of us tightening our budgets. Despite many businesses using the lure of Air Conned offices to pull workers back in, employees save around ยฃ500 a month by working at home. By cutting down on travel, food, clothing, fuel, and all the other expenses office life brings us, hybrid working allows workers to save all of these expenses. With 26% of employees saying that they would no longer take a job if working from home wasn’t an option, this also helps with your retention strategy!
Only requiring a few days a week in the office broadens the search criteria for candidates massively. Workers are far more likely to commute further if they only need to do so once or twice a week. Not only does this increase your potential candidate pool, it massively increases your staffs diversity and inclusion, allowing people who wouldn’t have been able to connect with your role previously to connect and grow in new spaces.
As mentioned above, taking out a daily commute helps with saving money, but it also has other advantages. Your worker’s carbon footprint will be drastically impacted for the better. This is becoming a more and more important factor for individuals as the climate crisis becomes an unavoidable issue. If you’re interested in how your company can further reduce their carbon footprint, check out our work with Ecologi on the button below and see if they’re the right organisation for you too!
Long gone are the days were neurodivergent workers found it impossible to join the workforce. Despite still facing hurdles, and plenty more work for employers to do to accommodate, allowing hybrid or flexible working can greatly improve neurodivergent individuals employment experience and productivity. Allowing individuals to work in spaces that are safe and completely created by the individual themselves, productive work environments are much easier to attain. This decreases potential stressors, burn out, distractions and a range of other factors. Of course, each individual will have different needs, accommodations, and preferences. So make sure to communicate with your employees to make sure they can thrive!
