Where Karen has gone, why she’ll be missed and when she’ll be back

2022 has been a very busy year for the team here at Niche Recruitment, from new clients to company placement records, there’s one Niche team member whose taken every high and low in her stride, all whilst expecting.

Yes, you read that correctly! Niche Recruiter Karen is off on her maternity leave, and we wanted to dedicate this blog post to all the great work she has done whilst here at Niche Recruitment. If you’ve had the opportunity to work with Karen as a Niche candidate, you’ll know just how amazing she is at her work and how much she’ll be missed.

The Beginning

Karen started her journey as a Recruiter for Niche, back in July and despite being new the recruitment world, has grown from strength to strength and is now embarking on her own new role – Motherhood!

Karen discussed her growth, crediting it to Niche’s Directors and Co-Founders Nick and Michelle, she explained that “They both welcomed me with open arms, took me under their wing, trained me up and before I knew it I tasked with coordinating the recruitment process for a key client”.

The recruitment industry is a valuable sector for the UK economy, in fact 2021 data suggests that nearly £1 in every £20 contributed to the British economy is supported by the recruitment industry. However, the sector’s value can often be overlooked. Karen explained that having now gained experience working within recruitment, the industry’s value became quickly apparent.

She explained, “It’s amazing how much of a helping hand a recruitment agent can be, in securing a job. Here at Niche, we provide our candidates with hints and tips before their interview, which supplies them with hugely beneficial insight that they wouldn’t otherwise have”.

Happy Highlights

“Getting my first five-star review, that named me personally was such an amazing feeling. I felt I had really made a positive impact on someone, which is always lovely when you’re new to an industry”.

When asked about her favourite aspect of recruitment, she described the joy of offering candidates their dream job role, “Hearing someone’s delight when giving them the good news. You can hear their smile over the phone! It’s such a lovey feeling”.

From numerous five-star reviews to a surprise baby shower, Karen’s time here at Niche has been full of great memories. One of her favourites, being receiving her first five-star review, she explained that, “Getting my first five-star review, that named me personally was such an amazing feeling. I felt I had really made a positive impact on someone, which is always lovely when you’re new to an industry”.

January is one of the busiest months for recruitment, with candidates looking to begin their year on a high and client’s wanting to recruit fresh talent for the new year. Karen offered some words of wisdom to those on the job hunt this Christmas, “Be opened minded- don’t limit yourself. Identify transferable skills that could make you suitable for a role you may otherwise overlook. Apply for that job role you don’t perfectly match; you might just find you get it”.

A Valued Team Member

Having received many five-star reviews from candidates, we know Karen will be missed by her you as much as she will be missed by the team. Director and Co-founder of Niche Recruitment, Michelle described Karen’s value to Niche explaining, “Karen got off to a great start with us back in the summer, we instantly knew we had made a great hire with her joining the team. It took us all by surprise, Karen especially, when within a few weeks she learnt she was expecting. Her exciting pregnancy news coincided with news of us winning a large recruitment project and we were confident that Karen’s impeccable organisation and communication skills from her years in the events sector, made her the perfect match to lead the co-ordination of the project”.

Karen has played an instrumental role in devising processes and establishing a great relationship from day 1 on the project, which has led to recruitment goals running to schedule and numerous candidates landing great roles! She is a natural Recruiter and no doubt will be a natural in her upcoming role as a Mum! This will be Niche baby number 4 and we can’t wait to meet to them too.

Planning on returning to her role here at Niche Recruitment, it’ll be no time before she’s swapping nappy duties back for interview preparation calls. From all the team here at Niche, we wish Karen the best of luck in her new role as mum and will be counting down the days till her return to the office!
