As we move into 2023 it’s fair to say that 2022 was a strong year for the recruitment industry; with us offering a record number of job roles and the fierce competition for talent showing no signs of slowing down, there was no stopping us as we exchanged our pyjama bottoms for work wear and headed back into the office post-pandemic.
According to UK Government Statistics, the 2022 unemployment rate for September to November (aged 16 and over) remained low at ‘3.7%’, a significant decrease from 2021’s unemployment rate of ‘4.1%’ (September-November) and 2020’s rate of ‘5.1%’. As a result, the war on talent continues, with the number of vacancies remaining at historically high levels.
‘In 2022 the need for agency picked up, we grew our team in order to support the increased demand for our services.’
Co-Director Nick Wimshurst
Despite recession concerns, the high employment levels have played in the recruitment industry’s favour, and demand for our services comfortably increased in the past year. A demand which resulted in us welcoming six new team members to Niche Recruitment; you can find out more about our growing team here. Co-Director, Nick Wimshurst commented on this, explaining, ‘In 2022 the need for agency picked up, we grew our team in order to support the increased demand for our services. Each new member of our team settled in well and achieved truly fantastic results, elevating our service further. You only need to read our customer testimonials to see the great impression they have all made.’
There was a key driving force behind starting Niche Recruitment: one of service and professionalism, meeting a market need by consistently providing the highest level of care to every one of our candidates and clients.
We agree, there’s no substitute for experience. We also think knowledge and the ability to build an honest relationship are vitally important too.
We believe that it’s this caring and innovative approach to recruitment that keeps candidates coming to Niche, with our team successfully placing over 200 candidates in job roles this year. Our interviews to placement ratio are 1.5:1, with approximately over 90% of niche placements staying within their job role long-term. This gives us the confidence that we are getting the match right.

‘We are now pleased to be offering more flexible recruitment solutions from application screening to advertising packages.’
Co-Director Michelle Graham
2022 was a year for the Niche history books, with the highest number of job roles available and candidates placed through us, since our journey began.
With the continuing challenges with finding talent, 2022 saw us trial new ways to attract and engage with candidates to meet our clients’ needs. Co-Director Michelle commented; ‘Much has changed in recruitment since my rookie days back in 1999, of course it’s ultimately about getting the match right but more so now it’s finding the very best talent. Not only have we expanded the team size, but another major investment was in new advertising methods, utilising social media and geo-targeted digital campaigns to unearth the hidden talent. We are now pleased to be offering more flexible recruitment solutions from application screening to advertising packages and fully branded video-interviewing platforms. We are confident that we have a service to suit every client need and budget.’
Although the team has grown, Directors Michelle and Nick remain on the front lines of the business, working with clients to devise innovative and bespoke recruitment solutions that work in this talent-short market.

The 2021 Corporate Climate Crisis report from PLAY, surveyed 1,000 UK employees, finding that ‘77% of respondents wanted more transparency from their employer on environmental impact’. Following on from this, LinkedIn’s 2023 list of the fastest growing UK job titles, found Sustainability Manager to be the second highest-growing job role.
As a climate-conscious company, we’re pleased to see this trend rising. 2022 saw us launch our Niche net-zero pledge; partnering with Ecologi, we plant a tree in our Niche forest for every candidate placed into a temporary and permanent role. We are proud to have hit the milestone of planting 1,635 trees to date and have offset 4 tonnes of carbon emissions.
So the good news is, through working with us, you’ll not only get a valuable team member, but you’ll also be helping the planet stay green!
2022 was a year of innovation and growth for us here at Niche Recruitment and we have every intention to continue this objective.
Delivering exceptional client and candidate experience remains our mission in the coming year and with an amazing team behind Co-Directors Michelle and Nick, we are confident that in 2023 we will be able to enhance our service offering further.
