In this series, “A Day in the Life,” we delve into the stories of candidates who have found their perfect fit through Niche Recruitment. To kick things off, weโre talking temps! Meet Luke Davies, a previous Niche temp, working as Digital Platform Support Administrator for one of our most established clients.
After returning from 7 months of travelling, Luke was hunting for temporary work whilst he looked for long-term career opportunities, he was approached by Niche about the role, recorded a two-way interview with our Recruiter Tracy and the rest is history.
Describing his favourite part of his time with our client, he explained that; working as Digital Platform Support Administrator, โwas great for developing my soft skills. [โฆ] My line manager trusted me and gave me responsibility, making me feel like a valued member of the team.โ
From the camaraderie of team catch-ups to the excitement of embarking on day trips to Bristol, are you curious to discover how a day unfolds for a temporary Administrator? Let’s dive into the details.
How do you like to start your day?
Luke:
โMy day always starts with a strong black coffee and a big breakfast of porridge and eggs to keep me going til lunch, then I get ready for work. Listening to a good podcast or album on my drive into the office would always set me up for a good day.โ
What was something in your working day that you’d look forward to?
Luke:
‘As a team, we would head to the Bristol or London office several times a month. On these trips, we would assist with VR projects, such as launching VR hubs or doing demos to other areas of the business. We did a VR demo to around 100 people at a conference in London once which was a real challenge. These days out were always great fun and broke up the working week.’
What was your routine going into the office?
Luke:
โEveryone would say hello to each other first thing and catch up on anything from the day or night before, not just work-related but anything fun weโd been up to. The facilities at the company were great, weโd hot desk and sit together as a team in one part of the office.
Iโd hook my laptop up to a second monitor to make it easier to juggle between screens. I would start my working day by checking my tasks and our team’s inbox. Weโd receive high volumes of queries from other areas of the business, so it was important weโd reply to these promptly.โ
What are some of the jobs youโd prioritise in the morning?
Luke:
‘Iโm my most productive in the morning, so I would usually tackle some data entry tasks or take time to quality assure any new training content.โ
How did you like to spend your lunch break?
Luke:
‘If the weather was nice, I would go for a quick walk around Cirencester Park which is just behind the office. This allowed me to clear my head and get ready for the afternoon.โ
What were some of the tasks youโd embark on post-lunch?
Luke:
‘In the afternoon, Iโd usually tackle some of the bigger tasks I had on my to-do list, such as creating reports on MS Excel for other areas of the business. We would often have team meetings in the afternoons or 1 to 1โs with my line manager and other members of my team.
I am occasionally susceptible to a post-lunch slump! Iโd usually get over this by having a coffee and by tackling some more lively tasks in the early afternoon.โ
How did you like to wrap up your day?
Luke:
โI would end my day by doing a final check of my email inboxes, making sure I hadnโt missed anything that required actioning. Iโd also assess where I had got to in the day and make notes of anything that needed to be done the following day.
To switch off after work, Iโd always head to the gym. After sitting at a desk most of the day Iโm always eager to do something active and burn any leftover energy.โ
Would you recommend Niche Recruitment to a friend looking for work?
Luke:
โI would highly recommend Niche for temporary work. I have worked for several agencies in the past and none were as helpful and proactive as Niche. I’d like to recommend Tracy Wilkins who was great at talking me through the interview process and letting me know about any updates. She also made sure Iโd settled into the role and stayed in touch throughout.โ
